Diane Bowie Zaitlin, Saco ME
Mixed Media Artist

"Beyond Because" | 2009
Mixed media with encaustic; 12” x 12”
Artist Statement: "My artwork alludes to the layers of meaning in our lives and the mystery of what lies beneath the surface. The paintings may have suggestions of memory, bits of conversation, or perhaps a sense of a person or location from the past. With the layering of paint and translucence of encaustic, I have found the medium to be a very natural way to explore this theme. The possibilities are nearly endless and always exciting to me.

Marc Leavitt, Belfast ME
Painter
(web)
"Three Flowers" | 2009
Oil and Acrylic on Linen
36 x 36
Artist Statement: "Beauty, meditative repetition, and reflective self-awareness are abstract concepts that Marc Leavitt tries to realize in his artwork. All art is conceptual and abstract; a work by Arp, Bacon, Leonardo, Raphael, Titian, Tobey, or Twombly does not succeed, for the artist, because of how "real" the things in it are depicted, but rather achieves great satisfaction for the abstract qualities it offers from engaged looking.
