Rebecca Thompson, Stonington ME (web)
Painter

"Maine Woods"

Oil on Linen, 16x20

Artist Statement: "My work centers around a passing moment. This may be expressed by the suggestion of light, by a figure caught in a narrative gesture, or by a chair floating over a road. I hope to engage the viewer's imagination by starting a story for which he or she supplies the details. My work starts on site but continues to evolve in the studio where I explore the narrative potential.” --Rebecca Thompson

Robert Steinmetz (e-mail)
Painter

"Circa 1854, Savannah, GA"

Watercolor, 18x12

Biography: "In 1990, after a 27-year career as a practicing architect in Connecticut and New York, Robert Steinmetz moved to mid-coast Maine and began to pursue a lifelong interest in watermedia painting. A contemporary realist, he typically focuses on carefully composed close-up images of his subjects. These are frequently local areas of interest, such as the working waterfront in Maine or architectural studies in various locations. His paintings often include or even focus on figures. As a self-taught artist, he has developed a process involving an acrylic underpainting followed by multiple watercolor glazes and drybrush accents. His subject matter and image composition come from his own photography, which he considers an integral part of the painting process.”

Mixed Media Artists

"n Memorium Ye Old Piano Makers"

Artist Statement: "I am a responder to things, objects for the most part, which is my media. Tubes of oil paint, brushes and old paint boxes often mean more to me than the art they are employed to make. I collect these and much more. In making art such material is my initial inspiration – responding to things I love – usually manufactured, often common place objects. I investigate and ‘play’ with whatever object I am working with and get to know the material in some depth. One could say I learn to speak its language and dance its dance. I respond and interpret via my work, sometimes introducing other materials and – ideas - the cohesive element in my art, born of experience, interest and imagination.” --Edward Mackenzie
