Siri Beckman ; Stonington, ME (web)
Printmaker

"The Old Cottonwood"

Wood engravings, 8x6

Influences: "Printmaker and artist Siri Beckman lives in Stonington, Maine. For many years her black and white wood engravings captured the daily life of a small fishing community. In 1997 she received an artist's residency at Acadia National Park which led to future residencies in Badlands NP, Rocky Mountain NP and Hovenweep National Monument. These experiences proved to be transformative. While printmaking continued to be an important medium of expression, the western experiences called for color, and painting provided a way of testing ideas in a new landscape. ”

Fine Art Photographer

"Cleaving"
Photography, inkjet print, matted and framed approx. 18 w x 24 h "

Artist Statement: "Relationships: These photographs are attempts to describe visually how feelings might appear. I believe we are hard-wired as mammals to be governed by our need for relationship, for better and for worse. The relationships we choose form the ship upon whose waves we ride, subject to the currents and prevailing winds beyond our control as we steer our way through life--or arrange leaves on a table. I arrange leaves to represent the human body in relationship to other "leaves," to describe fleeting moments in life, that at the moment the photograph was made, represent far more than the sum of their parts.” --Dorie Klein
