Artist Statement: "The surface of a painting can be as complicated, subtle, or rich as the experience of memory. Cognition becomes interspersed with visceral emotion in this, and that mix is reflected in layers of choices, and through multiple passages of paint over time. In this sense, my paintings and drawings reflect an inner landscape. They record gathered glimpses of awareness as met with material, color, and sensation. Abstracted sky, sea, and earth become simplified to their essence and immersed in color. Though my works are often based on experiential knowledge of specific locations in Maine, my aim is to elude the literal to render nature as felt, walked through, breathed in, and condensed." -- Rachael Eastman

Artist Statement: "Much of my work is representative but not realistic. Animals and people are my favorite subjects and materials range from stone, plaster, concrete to wood and epoxy-resin fiberglass. A few items are large, but generally I prefer to make portable sculptures." -- John Wilkinson

Since 2008, Maine Arts Scene online magazine has been promoting Maine artists and arts organizations in new and enterprising ways. We quietly revolutionized the local magazine world by offering a truly democratic voice to Maine artists and arts organizations throughout the state. For a small fee, individual artists and arts organizations can submit their press releases to present their work and promote their events on our popular site and social networks. As we reached the 10,000 visits per month milestone in 2009, we decided to push the online magazine boundaries one step further by launching the first statewide juried multi-disciplinary virtual online showcase. We created a unique virtual experience that resembles an actual gallery space, with various rooms to navigate and art work displayed to scale. In 2012, Maine Art Scene is going one step further.  Maine artists and private collectors of Maine art will soon be able to create online stores and sell their work. Arts organizations including galleries, museums, and non-profits will also be able to set up online gifts shops,  box offices and donation pages.
