Artist Statement: "The camera is a tool I use to capture the illusion and beauty surrounding me here in my adopted state of Maine. I love to photograph a broad range of subjects, but find myself drawn to those that are unique...in the moment...successes. My love of nature shines through in the majority of my work. Given all of the beauty we have available to us to appreciate everyday living here in Maine, it's very easy for me to find unique shots every time I leave home with my camera in tow." -- Wendy Barrett

Artist Statement: "From my earliest exposure to art, I have responded to abstract paintings of all sorts. The reductionist point of view seems to have always resonated with my own way of seeing the world. And I see my environment through the camera, not as it is necessarily, but as it could be; as it is in my own mind's eye. Color compels me. There is an emotional charge to it. I see in color; I dream in color. It is man-made objects and building parts that catches my eye, and if the right lighting is present and a daub of color, then I am off and running, arranging the elements in a graphic and abstract way, playing up the surface texture and repetition of line and pattern. I always maintain that 'beauty is its own reason'." -- Terry Hire

Since 2008, Maine Arts Scene online magazine has been promoting Maine artists and arts organizations in new and enterprising ways. We quietly revolutionized the local magazine world by offering a truly democratic voice to Maine artists and arts organizations throughout the state. For a small fee, individual artists and arts organizations can submit their press releases to present their work and promote their events on our popular site and social networks. As we reached the 10,000 visits per month milestone in 2009, we decided to push the online magazine boundaries one step further by launching the first statewide juried multi-disciplinary virtual online showcase. We created a unique virtual experience that resembles an actual gallery space, with various rooms to navigate and art work displayed to scale. In 2012, Maine Art Scene is going one step further.  Maine artists and private collectors of Maine art will soon be able to create online stores and sell their work. Arts organizations including galleries, museums, and non-profits will also be able to set up online gifts shops,  box offices and donation pages.
